Four Georgetown Women's Soccer Players Earn Postseason Awards From SoccerBuzz Magazine

Jan. 8, 2008

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team had four players earn postseason honors when SoccerBuzz Magazine unveiled their All-American and Regional teams this past week. Seniors Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and Karen Waskewich (Laytonsville, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) along with freshmen Michaela Buonomo (Churchville, Pa/Council Rock) and Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) all garnered accolades for their play this past season. These four ladies helped lead the Hoyas to their best season ever and first NCAA Tournament berth.

Wells was named Third Team All-American, First Team All-Mid Atlantic, First Team Freshman All-American and First Team Freshman All-Mid Atlantic. Wells finished tied for eighth nationally in assists per game, averaging 0.59 per contest. During her first year on the Hilltop, Wells dished out 13 assists, which tied her with Nicole DePalma for the GU single-season record. In a 5-0 win over Cincinnati, Wells recorded a single game, season-high four assists. The freshman finished with 25 points, leaving her one point behind the single-season record of 26, set by Jessie Beers-Altman in 2002.

Waskewich and Jordan earned Second Team and Third Team All-Mid Atlantic, respectively. Waskewich, a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection, graduated after being a defensive stalwart for four seasons and finishing fourth all-time at Georgetown in assists. Jordan, a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, led the Hoyas in goals this season with seven and was second on the team in points. She will depart after finishing in the top-10 all-time at GU in all three major offensive categories: goals (8th), assists (T2nd), points (7th).

Buonomo brought home Fourth Team Freshman All-American and First Team Freshman All-Mid Atlantic honors after starting every game for the Hoyas in 2007. The Churchville, Pa. native scored her first collegiate goal in a non-conference win against Delaware.
