Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team (10-4-0, 3-3-0 BIG EAST) will host two pivotal BIG EAST games this weekend, when they play No. 25 West Virginia (NSCAA/adidas® National Rankings) on Friday afternoon and Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas will host the Mountaineers (9-4-1, 5-1-1 BE) in a 3 p.m. contest on October 19 and the Panthers (6-8-0, 1-6-0) at 1 p.m. on October 21. Both games will be played on North Kehoe Field. Passing the midway point and coming up on the final games of BIG EAST play, the Hoyas are being led in points by senior Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central). For her career, Jordan is now ranked in the top-10 all-time in both points and assists at Georgetown, along with being tied for third place all-time in assists. This season, she is tied for the team lead in goals with sophomore Toni Marie Hudson (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) with four each. Freshman Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) currently leads the team in assists with five. The Georgetown defense has also been solid, allowing only 11 goals through 14 games, an average of less than one goal allowed per game (0.79). Currently, senior defender Karen Waskewich is ranked fifth all-time in Georgetown history with 16 assists. Freshman goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) has recorded six shutouts and maintains a 0.72 goals-against average. She has also been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice. West Virginia owns a 9-2-0 record against Georgetown with the Hoyas two wins both coming on North Kehoe Field. Last season, the Blue and Gray were defeated 3-0 in Morgantown, W. Va. as First Team All-BIG EAST Selection, Deanna Everrett, netted two goals and an assist. Kim Bonilla, who returns this season along with Everrett, chipped in with a goal and an assist.
The 25th-ranked Mountaineers went 1-1-0 in BIG EAST play last week, defeating Providence, 3-0 and losing to Connecticut 2-0. After 60-plus minutes of scoreless soccer, senior defender Natalie Cocchi scored the game-winner. Eighteen of WVU's 27 goals this season have come in the second half. Senior forward Ashley Banks and Everrett added goals in the victory and Banks has scored at least one point in nine of 14 games this season. Her 22 points lead the team (eight goals and six assists). With the win, the WVU women's soccer program has now recorded at least nine wins in all 12 seasons of its existence. Against UConn, the Huskies' first goal at the 22:57 mark was the first allowed by West Virginia in nearly 400 minutes, dating back to Syracuse's early first half goal on September 30. The Hoyas and Pittsburgh have met each other once every season for the last 10 years, with the Panthers holding the series advantage (5-3-2). Georgetown has won only one of the last four meetings between the two teams after a 1-1 double-overtime tie last season. In that game, Chrissy Skogen scored the equalizer in the first half off a pass from Waskewich and the Hoyas were out-shot 11-4. Last week the Panthers lost 4-0 at Connecticut on October 12 and were defeated 2-1 at Providence on October 14. Sophomore forward Ashley Habbel leads the team in goals (5) and points (13) and is tied for the team lead in assists (3) with freshman midfielder Laura Berbert. Junior midfielder Jennifer Kritch is currently second on the team in goals and points, with three and seven, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper Alison Finch has started 12 games in net and holds a 1.64 goals-against average and .740 save percentage to go with three shutouts. |
