Georgetown Softball Falls to Wright State, 6-1 at New Mexico University Tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Georgetown University softball team (6-16) fell behind early and was unable to rally back against Wright State in its first game of the New Mexico University Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) provided the Hoyas' lone highlight with a solo home run, her first of the season. Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing six runs on 11 hits over 7.0 innings, while striking out five.

Jaime Perkins led off the game with a double to right center and advanced to third on an illegal pitch. Mollie Berry drew a walk and stole second before Allison Cox singled to center to drive in two runs. Jherica Williams followed with a two-run home run to give Wright State a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Connell held the Raiders scoreless until Williams struck again with a run-scoring triple, to extend the lead to 5-0.

Peters' put the Hoyas' on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run down the left field line to make the score, 5-1, but the Raiders would add one more run in the top of the seventh. The Hoyas went down in order in the bottom of the inning, as the final held at 6-1 for Wright State.
