Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sophomore Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) became the first Georgetown softball player to hit two-home runs in a game, but the Hoyas (6-17) could not hold on against host New Mexico, who scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win, 6-5 on Friday night

Peters went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI's, and freshman Aimee Moffat went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, her second of the season, to account for as many runs as the Hoyas have scored in their last five games. But the Lobos scored four runs over the last three innings to hand GU the loss.

Freshman Melissa Conners (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) took the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, on nine hits over 6.1 innings.

In the top of the first inning, Peters hit a two-out, solo home run to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead. The Lobos would answer in the bottom of the second inning. Erin Brandow doubled with one out and stole third before scoring on Madelyn Machac's sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third inning, sophomore Sarah Kamenski (Mountain View, Calif./St. Francis) led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Peters singled to right field, driving in Kamenski for her second RBI of the game. Moffat followed with a two-run home run to centerfield, her second of the year, to give the Hoyas a 4-1 lead.

Gabriella Parra doubled to drive in a run in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead to 4-2. The Lobos would tie the score at four runs apiece in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs after the Hoyas made a costly two-out error.

With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Peters struck again, hitting another solo shot to left field to put the blue and gray in front, 5-4. New Mexico would not be denied in the bottom of the seventh. Lindsay Elcess singled to drive in the tying run and Parra drove in the game-winner with a single up the middle.
