WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) tossed a complete game three-hit shut out, as Georgetown softball (8-21) defeated Holy Cross, 3-0 in the first game of day two at the Hoya Invitational at Guy Mason Field.

Connell held the Crusaders bats at bay, while the Hoyas offense gave her more than enough for the victory.

Sophomore Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) led off with a sun-aided double, as the Crusader's Jayme Elliot lost the ball in center, getting the Hoyas started. Two wild pitches later, Cipriano crossed the plate, giving GU a 1-0 lead.

The blue and gray added another run in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Olivia Newhouse drew a lead off walk and scored later when sophomore Jadiq Garcia grounded out to second base, extending the lead to, 2-0.

Sophomore Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) hit a solo home run over the centerfield wall, her third of the Hoya Invitational and sixth of the season, putting Georgetown in front, 3-0. That would be all Connell and the Hoyas needed to win their second game of the Hoya Invitational.
