Ohio University Snaps Georgetown Softball's Three-Game Winning Streak, With 5-2 Victory

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Georgetown University softball team (10-22) had its three-game winning streak snapped, as Ohio University scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-2 win on Friday morning at the University of Virginia Tournament.

Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing five runs on 11 hits over 7.0 innings. Sophomore Olivia Newhouse (Weston, Conn./Green Farms Academy) went 2-for-3 and drove in a run to lead the Hoyas offense.

The Bobcats got off to a quick start, tagging Conners for two quick runs. Shalene Petrich and Maureen McKelvey each drove in runs during the top of the first to give Ohio a 2-0 lead.

GU battled back in the bottom of the second inning, cutting the lead in half, as Newhouse singled to drive in freshman Aimee Moffat (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield).

Senior Brittany Sonnichsen scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the fourth inning, crossing the plate when freshman Jillian Webb (Hemet, Calif./Hemet) reached on a fielder's choice.

But the Bobcats used five hits to score three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an insurmountable, 5-2 lead and snap the Hoyas three-game win streak.
