Samantha Peters Drives in Two Runs in Georgetown's 4-2 Win Over Rutgers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Georgetown University Softball team (11-22) won its second game of the University of Virginia Tournament, defeating Rutgers, 4-2 by scoring two late runs to defeat the Scarlet Knights on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Melissa Conners (3-6) (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) earned her third collegiate victory, allowing two runs on seven hits over 7.0 innings. Sophomore Samantha Peters led the Hoyas offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.

GU struck first, as sophomore Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Cipriano would later score on Peters' single through the left side of the infield. Peters scored as sophomore Suria Bahadue (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) doubled to left center, giving the blue and gray an early 2-0 cushion.

The Scarlet Knights tied the score in the top of the third inning when Mandy Craig drove in two runs with a single to right centerfield.

Georgetown took advantage of two walks and a Rutgers' error, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Peters drove in her second run of the game, to help GU earn a 4-2 victory.

Georgetown will conclude its trip to Charlottesville, Va. when the play Radford at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
