Georgetown Softball Postpones Doubleheader With UMBC Until Wednesday April, 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown Softball team (17-25) has announced that its regularly scheduled doubleheader with University of Maryland Baltimore County (13-16) has been postponed due to forecasted rain throughout the day on Tuesday. The games have been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at the UMBC Softball Stadium.

The Hoyas, winners of six of its last eight, will be playing to capture its first win against the Retrievers in team history, having lost the previous four matchups, including last season's doubleheader at Guy Mason Field.

After falling in the Cavalier Classic Game, 14-0 to Radford University on March 22, GU ran off an unprecedented five-consecutive wins, before finally falling to No. 21 Mississippi State during the Bulldogs Bully Bash this past weekend. Georgetown finished 2-2 at the Bully Bash, twice defeating Mississippi Valley State, as sophomore shortstop Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) earned All-Tournament team honors. Peters enjoying the finest offensive season in the Hoyas three-year history, batting .391 (50-for-128) with 10 home runs and 33 RBI's, leading the team in each of those categories.

Sophomore Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) has also come on of late, raising her average to .310 (39-for-126) with 2 home runs and 11 RBI's, primarily batting in the lead-off spot.

UMBC enters Wednesday's matchup having won its last four, including three at Hartford. Sophomore Amanda Fefel has shown her versatility for the Retrievers, batting .409 with four home runs and 53 total bases. She also holds a 4-4 record with a team-leading 3.07 ERA in 17 appearances.
