Georgetown Women's Tennis To Host Auburn and Dartmouth This Weekend

Feb. 1, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's tennis team returns home to the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. to take on Auburn on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Dartmouth on Sunday at noon.

The Hoyas first three matches of the spring season were spent on the road with a 7-0 loss to Old Dominion, a 5-2 win over Cincinnati and a 7-0 loss to Syracuse, all last weekend.

Senior co-captain Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) proved to be the catalyst in the team's lone win of the season, defeating Cincinnati's Elizabeth Young, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the third singles position to clinch a, 5-2 win over Cincinnati last Saturday afternoon. Cohen and junior Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy) had earlier defeated the Bearcats' top doubles pair, 8-5.

The duo of Cohen and Olsen had a successful opening weekend, also defeating Syracuse's to doubles pair, 8-3 for the blue and gray's lone win against the Orange.

This weekend the Hoyas will face an Auburn team (2-1), coming off consecutive, 7-0 victories against Mercer and Alabama A&M. The Tigers, like GU, is a young team, featuring six freshmen and sophomores on the eight-woman squad.

Georgetown will host Dartmouth at the Army-Navy Country Club on Sunday. The Big Green is 1-0 on the season, after defeating Boston College 4-3 last weekend. Dartmouth also brings in a youthful squad with four freshmen and four sophomores on the 14 woman roster.
