HC Women's Ice Hockey Defeats MIT 7-0

Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross Women's Ice Hockey team hosted MIT in this afternoons conference match up. In a 7-0 decision the Crusaders defeated MIT improving to 12-7-1 (10-4-0 ECAC) while MIT falls to 0-14-1 (0-13-1 ECAC). Freshman Jocelyn Kratchmer (Minneapolis, Minn.) led the Crusaders with two goals.

The Crusaders led the first period with three goals. Freshman Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan) scored the first goal just 17 seconds into the period with an assist from senior Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) and junior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.). The Crusaders scored again at 7:24 when senior Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass.) put the puck in the net with an assist from junior Amy McGhee (Newtown, Pa.). Kratchmer put in the final goal of the period at 8:14 with an assist from Couzin to make the score 3-0. Holy Cross had 20 shots on goal, while MIT had three.

The Crusaders controlled the second period scoring three more goals. At 7:27 freshman Louise Hillen (Minnotonka, Minn.) scored on power play with an assist from senior Sam Murphy (Canton, Mass.). Couzin put the puck in the net on power play at 9:44 unassisted. Kratchmer put in her second goal of the night, unassisted, at 10:39 to end the third period 6-0 Holy Cross. Holy Cross took 14 shots on goal, while MIT took three.

The Crusaders finished the game with one more goal in the third period. At 10:48 Rush put the puck in goal with an assist from Henry to finish the game 7-0. Holy Cross took 14 shots on goal, MIT took four.

In goal tonight was freshman Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) and freshman Alicia Lew (Brookline, Mass.). Gallant had six saves for the night and Lew had four.

The Crusaders play again Sunday, February 10 at the Hart Center against Salve Regina. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
