Holy Cross Is Defeated By Sacred Heart, 7-2

March 2, 2008

Manchester, N.H. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team traveled up to Saint Anselm to play in the semi-finals of the ECAC Women's Open Tournament. Third-seeded Sacred Heart defeated second-seeded Holy Cross, 7-2. The win improves Sacred Heart to 7-16-1, while the loss drops the Crusaders to 15-8-3.

Sophomore Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario) started out the first period with a quick goal scored at 9:44 with assist by sophomore Wendy Nobrega (Barrington, R.I.) and freshman Louise Hillen (Minnetonka, Minn.). Sacred Heart responded with three goals scored at 10:46, 17:32 and 19:44.

In the second period Sacred Heart continued their scoring spree with a goal scored at 2:54 and 9:31. Responding for the Crusaders was Wilson with her second goal scored at 12:46 with assists by senior Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) and freshman Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan). Sacred Heart got off the last goal of the period at 18:15.

In the third period Sacred Heart put in the final goal of the game at 6:14.

In goal for the Crusaders was freshman Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) with 25 saves dropping to 12-6-3. In goal for Sacred Heart was Sarah Perry with 27 saves improving to 7-10-0.

Holy Cross takes on Saint Michael's March 2, at the Saint Anselm rink. Start time is set for 1:00 pm.
