Former Holy Cross Rower Wins At National Selection Regatta

Worcester, Mass. - Rebecca Smith '02, a former member of the Holy Cross women's rowing team, won the lightweight women's single event at the U.S. Rowing National Selection Regatta in Princeton, N. J. Held by U.S. Rowing, the National Selection Regattas are the first step towards determining the U.S. and Olympic rowing teams.

Rowing for the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, Penn., Smith finished first in her time trial and in her heat. She also won again in the final by nine seconds over the second place boat.

While at Holy Cross, Smith served as Captain for the 2001-2002 women's rowing team and was a member of the varsity eight that won the ECAC National Invitational. Smith was also a recipient of the John J. Cooney award.
