Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross softball team hosted its first home doubleheader of the season this afternoon with a non-conference match-up against Harvard. The Crusaders were defeated 2-1 in game one and 8-0 in game two, dropping to 3-18 overall while Harvard improves to 14-15 overall.

In game one the Crusaders took an early lead when Jayme Elliott (Gardena, Calif.) scored on an RBI double by Kelly O'Neil (White Plains, N.Y.) in the first inning. The Crusaders held on to their 1-0 lead for the next four innings, before Harvard came back with two unearned runs in the sixth inning to win the game. The Crusaders had three hits and Harvard had five.

Pitching the first game was Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.), who struck out three and did not allow any walks, while giving up two unearned runs and four hits. Closing for the Crusaders was Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) with 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Harvard carried their momentum from game one into game two, scoring two runs in the first inning then one more in both the second and third inning. In the fourth inning they brought four more runners across the plate to win the game 8-0. The Crusaders had one hit for the game and Harvard had nine.

O'Neil finished the day going 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Elliott was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

The Crusaders play again on April 12 and 13 when they play a Patriot League series against Lafayette. Doubleheaders will be played on both days beginning at 12:00 p.m.
