Men's & Women's Track Teams Finish First At HC Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams hosted a home meet on Saturday which included American International College, Central Connecticut State, Colgate, Hartford, Maine and Siena. The women's team placed first out of four teams, scoring 302 points with 11 first place finishes and 49 top five finishes, while breaking five school records. The men claimed first place out of six schools with 186 points, six first place finishes and 24 top five finishes.

Schools records were broken by Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) in the 400-meter hurdles (taking first place with a time of 1:03.23), and Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) in the javelin (40.10 meters to take first). Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) broke her own record in the 100-meter dash, with a new time of 12.10 to take second. Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) tied the school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.51 to take first. The 4x100-meter relay team set a new school record running a time of 48.00. On the team were Reid, Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland), Meder and M.Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.).

Other first place finishers for the Crusaders were Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:25.34, Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:53.90, Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) in the discus with a toss of 37.66 meters, Reid in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.26 and Bautista in both the pole vault with a jump of 11'6" and the long jump with a leap of 5.21 meters.

First place finishers for the men included Michael Ricotta (Cross River, N.Y.) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.98, Vincent Fata (Hawthrone, N.Y.) in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:13.31, John Meikle (Newport, R.I.) in the pole vault with a height of 13'06", Thomas Harrison (Wilmington, N.C.) in the triple jump with a leap of 13.58 meters, Nicholas Le Blanc (New Bedford, Mass.) in the shot put with a toss of 14.07 meters and Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.) in the hammer with a toss of 51.62 meters.

Finishing second for the men were Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) in both the discus with a toss of 44.00 meters and the shot with a toss of 13.60 meters, Harrison in the long jump with a leap of 6.69 meters and Kevin Dowd (Broad Brook, Conn.) in the triple jump with a leap of 13.07 meters.

The Crusaders compete again on April 27 at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Start time is 9:30 a.m. for the men and 1:00 p.m. for the women.
