Track and Field Returns Home for Houston Indoor Invitational and Multis

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team returns home this weekend to host the Houston indoor Invitational and Multis in Yeoman Field House.

The two-day meet begins on Friday at 12 pm and continues on Saturday beginning at 9 am. Admission to the meet is $5.

Friday's schedule includes running and field events for the pentathlon and the heptathlon, as well as the women's pole vault, men's and women's distance medley and weight throw. Saturday will see the conclusion of the heptathlon, field events and running events. The final race on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 5 pm.

Schools participating in the event are Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Northwood, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston St., Stephen F. Austin, Tec de Monterrey, Texas (women only), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran (women only), Texas State, UT-Pan American and UTSA. Trinity and UCF each have one entry in the meet.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, freshman Chris Carter set an NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump with a leap of 15.41m (50-06.75) at the Razorback Invitational. The jump is currently the best mark in Conference USA and earned Carter C-USA Male Athlete of the Week honors.

Senior high-jumper Ivan Diggs cleared 2.18m (7-01.75) to finish first, his third collegiate win in the event this season.

Competing in just his second collegiate long jump competition, freshman Ed Turner posted a jump of 7.41m (24-03.75). The mark is currently the best this season in C-USA.

 

 

UP NEXT
Houston will host the Bayou City Classic on Feb. 9 inside the Yeoman Field House. The Cougars then travel back to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the Tyson Invitational Feb. 15-16.
