Track and Field Prepares for the Bayou City Championships

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team returns to action this weekend as they host the Bayou City Championships Saturday in Yeoman Field House.

The field events are scheduled to begin at 8 am with the men's and women's weight throw. Running events are to begin at 12:30 pm, starting with the 5000-meter run. Admission to the meet is $5.

Schools participating in the Bayou City Championships are Houston, Dallas Baptist, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word (women only), Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, Nicholls Sate (women only), Northwestern State, Paul Quinn, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana (women only), Southern Miss, Southern, Southern-New Orleans (men only), Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Lutheran (women only), Texas Southern, Texas State, Texas-Arlington, Texas Pan-American, Trinity (men only), and UTSA (men only).

In addition, there will be several club and unattached entries.

LAST TIME OUT

Last weekend at the Houston Indoor Invitational, senior Ivan Diggs finished first in the men's high jump, clearing 2.14m (7-00.25). The finished notched Diggs' fourth straight collegiate win in the even this season.

In the women's shot put, freshmen Charlissa Foster and Kiara Pulliam finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Foster's toss of 14.22m (46-08.00) and Pulliam's toss of 14.14m (46-04.75) are currently the fifth and sixth best marks recorded in Conference USA this year. Both also set personal records.

Freshman Ed Turner took a second place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.92, tying the fifth fastest mark in C-USA this season. Turner also holds the current conference best in the long jump with a leap of 7.41m (24-03.75).

 

 

UP NEXT

The Cougars travel back to Arkansas to compete in the Tyson Invitational Feb. 15-16. Houston will then prepare for the C-USA Indoor Championships, which UH will host Feb. 29-March 1.
