March 10, 2008
HOUSTON -- After helping lead the University of Houston men's basketball team to the program's winningest season since 1991-1992, seniors Robert McKiver and Dion Dowell were named to All-Conference USA teams, as announced by the league office on Monday. For the second straight season, McKiver earned a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team. The New Haven, Conn., native recorded 20 or more points in 16 games this season, including seven games with 30 or more points. McKiver set a C-USA record pouring in a career-high 52 points in Houston's victory over Southern Miss on Feb. 28. He became just the fourth player in school history to record 50 points in a game, while his point total also was the highest posted in NCAA Division I play this season. McKiver currently leads the conference in free-throw shooting (.866) and ranks second in scoring (23.1 ppg) and steals (1.77 spg). Dowell was Houston's other representative, being named to the All-Conference USA Third Team. Dowell leads the Cougars with three double-doubles this season after scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against UTEP on March 8. The Texas City native has recorded five 20-point and five double-figure rebounding games this season. He leads the Cougars in blocked shots (51) and rebounding (6.7 rpg).
