HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team looks for the season sweep against crosstown rival Rice, Saturday at 2 p.m. in Conference USA action at Sharp Gymnasium on the campus of Houston Baptist University.

STORYLINES

  • Houston (10-9, 4-1 C-USA) has won four-straight games and five of its last six.
  • The Cougars beat Rice by a 71-66 margin on Jan. 13 at Hofheinz Pavilion.
  • Twiggy McIntyre (15.6 ppg) and Tye Jackson (11.8) lead the way for Houston.
  • McIntyre is averaging 22.6 ppg in C-USA play and has gone 33-35 from the free-throw line (.943) during that span. She earned C-USA POTW honors on Jan. 7 and Jan. 21.
  • Jackson has averaged 6.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game in C-USA games.
  • Courtney Taylor has averaged a double-double during league play thus far (11.2/10.6).
  • Rice (8-11, 1-4 C-USA) has lost six of seven and has been without leading scorer and rebounder (16.7/8.7) Valeriya Berezhynska for the past five games.
  • UH is off to its best start in C-USA play since starting the 2004-05 season 5-0.
  • Houston head coach Joe Curl, who suffered a heart attack on Oct. 27, continues to recover at his Houston home. No timetable has been set for his return and assistant coach Danny Hughes will serve as the interim head coach for the foreseeable future.
  • Houston continues a three-game road swing at Memphis and UAB next weekend. UH will play six of its next eight games on the road.
