No. 9 Softball Prepares for C-USA Series at Tulsa

Tulsa, Okla. -- The University of Houston softball team travels to Tulsa, Okla., to continue play in Conference USA with a three-game series against the Tulsa Hurricane on April 19-20. A doubleheader on Saturday is slated to begin at 1pm with the final game to start at 1pm on Sunday. The Cougars are 38-6 overall this season and hold a league best 13-1 record in conference play. Houston is 4-3 in the all-time series against the Hurricane. In their last meeting Houston swept the 2007 regular season series 3-0 with scores of 5-1, 6-1 and 3-0. In the Cougars last outing, Houston split a doubleheader with Baylor at Cougar Softball Stadium on April 16. UH won game one, 7-3, behind a grand slam from junior Laurie Wagner in the first inning and a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Houston fell in the second game with a score of 8-3. Wagner leads the team with a .420 batting average. She also has a team best 14 home runs, which is tied for second on the single-season home run charts. She needs three home runs to tie the single season record of 17 held by Kristen Glowacz (2005). Senior pitcher Angel Shamblin, the reigning C-USA Pitcher of the Week, leads the team with an 0.62 ERA and is 23-2 in the circle. She is holding her opponents to a .154 batting average. Tulsa is coming off a double-header sweep of UT-Arlington and is 23-18 overall this season. They are 8-7 in C-USA. Tulsa is led by Lauren Lindsay, who holds a .398 batting average and a team-best 35 RBI. Jordan Kinard is 8-4 in the circle this season with a team-best 1.79 ERA. Following the series, Houston will return home to host a single-game against Sam Houston State at 4pm on April 23. They game is a rescheduled game that was rained out on Feb. 20. |
