Softball's Jessica Valis Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

HOUSTON - University of Houston junior Jessica Valis was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the second-straight week. This is the third weekly honor of the Shiner, Texas native's career and the second this year.

Valis went 8-for-14 in four games last week for a .571 batting average. She recorded two multi-hit games, including a double, her ninth of the season, and an RBI. Valis had a stolen base in the mid-week game against Sam Houston State giving her a team-best 16 for the season. The total is tied for the second most stolen bases in UH single season history.

She is batting .542 in conference games and .453 overall, helping the Cougars clinch their second consecutive regular season championship.

Houston will play host to a doubleheader against Louisiana-Lafayette on April 30. First pitch is set for 4pm. Houston will hold a ceremony to present the 2007 C-USA Championship team with their rings following the second game.

The Cougars will then close out conference play with a series against UTEP on May 3-4. Saturday's double-header will begin at 1pm. The four seniors, including Angel Shamblin, Barbie Love, Amanda Grote and Courtney Spittler will be honored in between the May 3 doubleheader. The series will wrap-up with a single game on May 4 at 1pm.
