HOUSTON -- Junior outfielder Katie Bush was named an ESPN The Magazine Softball Academic All-District 6 Second-Team selection Thursday, announced by the College Sports information Directors of America.

This marks the second consecutive season that Bush has been placed on an Academic All-District Team, earning First-Team honors in 2007.

The Brenham native also was recognized for her dedication to her coursework on Wednesday, when she was selected as a Conference USA Academic Medal recipient after notching a cumulative GPA of 3.76 in kinesiology with a focus in exercise science.

Bush is third on the club with a .339 batting average, scoring 40 runs and plating 17 RBI, batting mostly from the top of the order this season.

Bush and her Houston teammates return to action Friday as they continue their quest for a second-straight C-USA Tournament Championship. The No. 1 seeded Cougars face No. 5 ECU at 4:30 p.m. at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
