Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons and UT-Dallas' baseball teams played a grueling nearly four hour marathon that UTD finally won in the 11th inning 14-11 in nonconference action at Hunter Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The teams were tied at 10-10 after four and one-half innings. After that the game turned into a pitcher's duel with the Cowboys only scoring on a solo home run in the sixth inning and UTD scoring a single run in the eighth and three more runs in the 11th inning.

Early on it was a slugfest as the Cowboys received home runs from Regan Dixon, J.T. Armstrong and Kyle Post. Chris Biguenet and Jared Smith had home runs in the early inning explosions.

HSU led 11-10 going into the eighth inning and star relieve Kyle Barton on. Grant Friddell had a one-out double and came around to score on a hit to right by Garet Norton to tie the game.

The Cowboys had ample chances to take the lead after that. Kyle Post hit a sharp liner to second to end the ninth inning, but Bigunet made a sliding stop to save the game. James Gage hit a ball to the wall in left field, but Smith ran it down right before hitting the wall in the 10th inning with a runner on second and one out. Wayne Pimpton hit a hard hit ball to Bigunet to end the 10th as well that would have won the game.

The Comets manufactured a run in the 11th and then after that Bigunet hit a two-run home run to secure the win.

James Gage (0-2) took the loss in relief for the Cowboys. Adam Spinn (2-0) earned the win for the Comets with three and two-third innings of one hit relief.

HSU is now 14-14 on the year and the Comets improved to 17-14. HSU will play at Howard Payne this weekend in a key series in determining spots into the ASC postseason. Friday's game will begin at 2 p.m.
