ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team rallied from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Sul Ross State 7-6 in American Southwest Conference action at Hunter Field on Friday night. Waters had a two-out RBI single to right to drive home Regan Dixon with the winning run in the eighth. HSU had tied the game in the seventh inning with a three-run rally. Tre' Sellari had a one-out home run and then Nathan Copeland and Kyle Post followed with back-to-back walks. Copeland scored on an RBI single to right and Post scored on a fielder's choice by Brian Weeks. Sul Ross State had taken the lead at 6-3 with a single run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles, two in the sixth on a single double and triple and three in the seventh on a RBI single and a two run home run by Javier Arrieta. HSU jumped to an early 3-0 lead. Wayne Pimpton had a two-run single in the bottom of the first and Copeland had a solo home run to left in the second. James Sweatman was solid for the Cowboys, scattering seven hits in six innings. He struck out seven and allowed three runs. Kyle Barton (5-1) earned the win with two innings of relief and Josh Alcorn saved the game with a scoreless ninth. It was his fifth save of the season. Cody Kimmerling allowed six runs in six and one-third inning and retired 13 straight Cowboys at one point. Eddie Vela took the loss in relief. The win was the Cowboys sixth straight as they improved their record to 20-14 overall and 9-7 in league play. Sul Ross State fell to 4-26 on the year and 1-15 in league play. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday on Senior Day at Hardin-Simmons. |
