RICHARDSON, Texas - A total of 10 Hardin-Simmons baseball players were honored by the league's coaches on the All-American Southwest Conference team that was announced on Monday. Josh Alcorn was the lone Cowboy to be selected to the first team. The senior reliever from Brownwood went 4-2 with five saves for HSU. Six Cowboys were named to the second team. Regan Dixon earned the honor at catcher after hitting .444 with five home runs and 34 RBIs. Wayne Pimpton (.358 avg, 10 HR, 38 RBIs) and Ryan Stepp (.323, 3, 30) earned the nod in the outfield, Tre' Sellari (.296, 6, 29) was the utility player on the second team and pitchers Kyle Barton (6-1 with two saves and a 1.76 ERA) and Nathan Copeland (4-2, 3.35 ERA) earned second-team All-ASC honors. First baseman James Gage, shortstop Brian Weeks and starting pitcher James Sweatman earned honorable mention accolades. The Cowboys went 26-16 on the year and claimed a piece of the first ASC West crown in school history. Five of the 10 honorees for the Cowboys will be back to form a solid nucleus for HSU in 2009. --- HSU --- |
