Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team returns home for the first time in 11 days, welcoming Horizon League rival Wright State to Les Miller Field for a doubleheader this Sunday. The Flames (22-13, 11-3 Horizon League) and the Raiders (16-16, 7-4) begin the action at 12:05 p.m. Central, when UIC ace Derrick Miramontes (4-0, 1.91 ERA) heads to the hill to face Wright State's Michael Woytek (2-4, 6.38 ERA). Sunday's second game is slated to feature a pitching matchup between UIC junior RHP Mike Kool (3-3, 4.98 ERA) and Wright State RHP Alex Kaminsky (3-1, 5.04 ERA). UIC is coming off an impressive offensive output during Friday's doubleheader at Valparaiso. The Flames scored 14 runs in each game while pounding out a combined 30 hits between the pair of contests. Junior Tony Altavilla and freshman Jason Ganek have been UIC's hottest hitters at the plate of late. Altavilla is batting .377 (20-for-53) while slugging at a clip of .528 in 15 games since March 29, while Ganek is hitting .444 (16-for-60) with 12 RBI and a slugging percentage of .639 in the Flames' last 10 games. Miramontes leads the Horizon League in earned run average while posting what is considered a "quality start" (no more than three earned runs in at least six innings) on seven occasions. Kool has gone at least seven innings in his last three starts, including a complete game at Youngstown State last Saturday. The Flames will seek to remain near-perfect at home. UIC owns a 14-1 record at "The Mill" this year.
