Akron, Ohio - After three days of competition held at two locations, the UIC swimming and diving teams remain in fourth place with one day remaining at the Horizon League Championships.

Through 30 events, the women's team has accumulated 274 points, while the men's squad has taken in 390.5.

Friday's action occurred at the University of Akron Natatorium, due to a water-main break near the Cleveland State campus. Because of the change of venue, the meet format was altered and all preliminary rounds were canceled.

For the final two days of competition, every event held will now be a timed final.

Even with a new locale and meet configuration, the Flames displayed great composure in events held on Friday.

Evan Dunn placed fourth in the 400 IM, shaving more than six seconds off of his seasonal best with a 4:00.87 effort.

Brooke Sawyer came within a mere .08 of a second from the school record in the 100 fly finals, placing third in 57.58. She followed up that performance with another third place finish in the 100 backstroke later in the evening.

Steve Yemm came even closer to breaking the men's school record in 100 fly, taking fifth-place with a 49.43 showing. The four-year old school record currently stands at 49.38 seconds.

The women's 800 medley relay capped off the evening by breaking the three-year old school record with a 7:44.58 finish. The team of Andrea Giczewski, Kelly Hashoian, Kathryn McLeland and Emily Hare placed fourth in the event, shaving two seconds off of the pre-existing record.

Not to be outdone, the men's relay of Brian Anderson, Dan Hare, Evan Dunn and Andrew Schmitt took four seconds off of the two-year old school record, taking third place in the 800 free relay finals in a time of 6:46.86.

Saturday's events will now begin at 11 a.m., starting with the men's one-meter diving finals. The women's three-meter finals will be held next, followed by the swimming finals, set to begin at 3 p.m.
