Men's Tennis Sweeps Butler To Advance To Horizon League Championship Match On Sunday
April 26, 2008 Indianapolis, Ind. - The UIC men's tennis team defeated Youngstown State and then Butler, the six-time defending Horizon League Champion, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon, advancing to the championship match for the fourth-straight season. The Flames advanced to the semi-final match against the Bulldogs by virtue of a first round victory over Youngstown State. UIC claimed the doubles point and three singles matches with ease to close out the morning win. Much akin to the regular season meeting between UIC and Butler, the doubles point came down to a critical tiebreaker victory for the Flames, with the No. 2 doubles pairing of Sebastian Lystad and Eric Fey defeating Ben Raynauld and Bryce Warrren, 9-8 with a 7-3 tiebreaker win. All singles matches were tight battles, with Sean Kreymborg winning a three-set match at No. 6 and Eric Fey taking the fourth-singles slot in a 7-5, 6-1 win. Bastian Harbo clinched the match for UIC with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over Ben Raynauld. With the Flames victory, Butler will not be in the championship finals for the first time since 1996. UIC will play for their first-ever Horizon League Championship and an automatic NCAA tournament berth at 10:30 a.m. EST on Sunday. The Flames will face top-seeded Cleveland State, who took the regular-season finale match from the Flames, 5-2, on April 20.
