Chicago, Ill. - UIC junior Mike Savegnago (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) was named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for the period ending May 7, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Savegnago captured his second career decathlon title in the Horizon League multi-event championships this past weekend in Indianapolis, Ind. He posted a career-best 6,104 points and also tallied career-best marks in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.41) and in the javelin throw (41.61m).

Savegnago helped UIC garner 21 combined points and will begin this week's championships in first place.

This award marks the first of the season for Savegnago and the second of his career.

The Flames will head to Youngstown, Ohio on Thursday and Friday (May 8-9) to complete the remainder of the league championships.
