Women's Basketball Earns Sixth Home Victory With Win Over Wright State

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win over Wright State on Thursday afternoon at the Pavilion with a 63-60 triumph. The Flames move to 7-12 overall and 3-5 in league play after tabbing their sixth home victory of the season. Sophomore Jessie Miller totaled a team-high 19 points. Miller was 7-for-14 from the field and notched a game-high four treys. Sophomore Cassie Johnson pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while freshman Taylor Manley picked up 15 points in the win. Manley was 3-for-6 from three-point land and totaled three assists. Sophomore Briana Hinkle added 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Hinkle was 7-for-15 from the field and hit all four free throws on the afternoon. Freshman Sheylani Peddy paced Wright State with 19 points, followed by freshman LaShawna Thomas with 10. Peddy and sophomore Charne Dixon each totaled five rebounds. Leading by four points with 8:55 left in the second half, UIC sparked a 7-0 run to take its largest advantage of the game (61-50). Wright State refused to go quietly and cut the deficit to just three points on an 8-4 run with 41.3 seconds left on the clock. The Raiders then forced a turnover, but were unable to tie up the game on a missed trey by Thomas at the end of regulation. The Flames captured their sixth win at home with a three-point victory (63-60) over Wright State. The first half remained tight with the lead changing 11 times. Trailing by one point (32-31) with 2:01 on the clock, Hinkle made two successful trips to the free throw line to give the Flames a one-point lead. WSU's Peddy answered with a layup, but freshman Shanice Sadler ended the half with her fourth career three-pointer to give UIC the advantage at the half (36-34).
