Women's Basketball Falls To Valparaiso, 76-46

Valparaiso, Ind. - The UIC women's basketball team suffered a 76-46 loss to Valparaiso at the Athletic-Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon in Indiana. UIC (8-14, 4-7) freshman Taylor Manley led the Flames with 10 points. Sophomore Cassie Johnson totaled a team-high nine boards and added nine points on the afternoon. Valparaiso junior Aimee Litka totaled a team-best 15 points, while sophomore Katie Emig tabbed a career-high 13 points. Emig also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Up by five early in the first half, Valparaiso (11-11, 6-5) extended its lead with a 23-2 run (34-9). The Flames hit five unanswered points in the final minutes before halftime, but the Crusaders headed into the break with a 43-17 advantage. Valparaiso was scoreless in the first four minutes of the second half. The Flames took advantage of the drought and sparked a 9-2 burst to cut the deficit (45-26.), but the Crusaders bounced back, eventually topping UIC, 76-46. UIC heads to Rogers Park to face crosstown rival Loyola on Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
