Dayton, Ohio - A second-half rally fell short on Saturday afternoon at Ervin J. Nutter Center as the UIC women's basketball team fell to Wright State, 56-48.

Jessie Miller totaled a team-best 16 points and four steals. Nikki Grobbecker pulled down team-high eight rebounds.

Although UIC (9-18, 5-11) shot 87.5 percent from the field (7-for-8) in the first nine minutes of action, Wright State owned a 17-14 lead off an 8-4 run. The Flames quickly sparked a 7-1 burst to own a three-point advantage (21-18) with 8:58 on the clock.

The Raiders (14-13, 11-5) outscored the Flames, 11-1, in the final six minutes of the first half to head into the break with a 34-23 lead.

The Flames tightened up on defense in the second half. The Raiders were 0-for-13 from the field in the first eight minutes, totaling just four points from the free throw line. UIC recorded a 13-2 run to get within two points at the 11:16 mark, but WSU's Kanisha Ward answered with a three-pointer.

UIC refused to go quietly and battled back to a one-point deficit (43-42), but Wright State scored ten unanswered points.

With 2:51 left in regulation, Miller scored seven straight to only trail the Raiders, 52-48. Despite the comeback, Wright State held the Flames in the final minute and sealed the victory at the free throw line.

Sheylani Peddy led Wright State with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Flames head back to Chicago to host Cleveland State on Thursday, March 6 at the Pavilion. Senior Day will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8 prior to the Youngstown State contest.
