Columbia, Mo. - The UIC women's gymnastics team continued to show signs of improvement in a 195.400-190.500 loss at No. 15 Missouri on Friday night.

After the first rotation, UIC notched a season-high 48.500 on the uneven bars and only trailed Missouri by .10 of a point. Five of UIC's six scores were higher than 9.650 in the event.

Over the next three events, UIC was able to maintain solid scores, but was unable to keep pace with a very experienced Tiger squad.

Junior Annie Kachman led UIC, posting an all-around score of 38.250 and placing third on the vault tallying a 9.750.

Junior Christine Girard had a nice showing, posting a 9.650 on bars and led UIC in the balance beam with a 9.700.

Other top scores highlighting the evening included Ashley Thurston's 9.775 on bars, Sarah Murray's 9.700 on vault, and Zandre Labuschagne's 9.650 on the balance beam.

Even with the loss, UIC posted its highest team total of the season with a 190.500 and looks to continue the improving trend with the upcoming meets ahead.

"We're taking some steps in the right direction, no doubt about it," said head coach Peter Jansson.

UIC will return back home next Saturday, Feb. 9 as they take on Arizona beginning at 5 p.m. at the UIC Physical Education Building. The women will compete alongside the men as they take on William and Mary.
