Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team fell to Cleveland State, 4-1, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Flames Field.

Sarah Clynes was 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a home run. Melissa Marinacci picked up UIC's second hit against the Vikings in the final contest.

Clynes (11-14) fanned three batters in 3.1 innings pitched. Whitney Orellana also totaled three strikeouts in the circle after replacing Clynes in the fourth inning.

On the second pitch in the bottom of the first inning, Clynes drilled her 11th home run of the season to give UIC an early 1-0 lead.

Cleveland State answered in the top of the third with three runs on three hits. With two runners on base, Whitney Willard drove in Jessica Burt on a double to center field.

Amanda Houchin then hit an RBI ground out to first base give the Vikings a one-run advantage (2-1). Christa Coppus stole home for the third run of the inning.

Burt gave Cleveland State a 4-1 lead with a solo homer to center field in the top of the fourth inning.

UIC faces nationally-ranked Northwestern on Tuesday, April 22 in Evanston at 4 p.m.
