Softball Opens Horizon League Action Against Butler

UIC Softball Game Notes in PDF Format Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team opens Horizon League action this weekend in a three-game series against Butler in Indianapolis, Ind. The Flames face the Bulldogs in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 starting at 12 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday, March 30. UIC leads the series, 32-7. The Flames' doubleheader against Butler last season was canceled due to inclement weather. UIC recorded a 2-1 mark in their league opener against Youngstown State in 2007. The Flames (9-20) are looking to bounce back after falling to Illinois in two games on Tuesday, March 25 at home. Ashlee Ackerman leads the team with a .326 batting average. The senior ranks first in the league with 30 hits in 29 games. Sarah Clynes paces the squad in the circle with 56 strikeouts in 91.0 innings pitched. Butler (10-11) is coming off two loses to Purdue on March 26. The Bulldogs split last weekend in their opening weekend of conference play against Loyola. Amy Hyerczyk owns a team-best .419 batting average with 26 hits. Nikki Naffziger paces the Bulldogs in the circle with a 2.69 ERA and 44 strikeouts. The Flames continue Horizon League play on Wednesday, March 2 in a doubleheader against Green Bay at Flames Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
