Softball Looks To Upset Cleveland State In Three-Game Series At Home April 18, 2008
UIC Softball Game Notes in PDF Format Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team hosts a crucial three-game series against Cleveland State this weekend at Flames Field with the Horizon League Tournament just weeks away. The Flames face the Vikings in a twinbill starting at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, April 19, followed by the series finale on Sunday at noon. UIC (17-24, 8-4) enters the three-game set ranked fourth in the league, while Cleveland State (21-10, 8-2) owns first place after sweeping Youngstown State on April 15. The Flames split with the Ramblers on Wednesday afternoon. Sarah Clynes owns a .488 batting average in league games with 21 hits, 14 runs, five doubles, 13 RBI and five home runs. Clynes inched her way into tenth place in the UIC single season and career record book in home runs after blasting a solo shot against Loyola in game one on April 16. Clynes has totaled 10 home runs in 2008 and 20 in her career. Cleveland State in coming off a non-conference split with Saint Francis on April 17. Christa Coppus paces the Vikings at the plate with a .421 batting average. Coppus has totaled 14 doubles and 22 RBI this year. The Horizon League Championship is hosted by Loyola on May 8-10 in Rogers Park. The Flames battle nationally-ranked Northwestern and DePaul next week before traveling to Detroit for their final Horizon League road series before the tournament.
