Fifth-Seeded Softball Faces No. 8 Youngstown State In First Round

UIC Softball Game Notes in PDF Format 2008 Horizon League Tournament Bracket in PDF Format Chicago, Ill. - The fifth-seeded UIC softball team tangles with No. 8 Youngstown State on Thursday, May 8 in the first round of the 2008 Horizon League Championship, hosted by Loyola University. UIC (22-31) and Youngstown State (12-35) are set to square off at 11 a.m. at Loyola Softball Park in Chicago, Ill. The winner plays No. 2 seeded Valparaiso at 6 p.m. on Thursday night. The Flames swept the Penguins in a three-game series in Ohio on April 5 and 6. Sarah Clynes earned her sixth conference award on Wednesday night after being named to the All-Horizon League First Team for the second consecutive year. The junior ranks fourth in the league, hitting .379 (64-for-169) with 43 runs, 14 doubles, 39 RBI and 12 home runs. The junior hurler has totaled 129 strikeouts in 186.0 innings of work. All-Horizon League First Team recipient McKenzie Bedra paces YSU's offense with a .338 batting average (44-for-130). Bedra has totaled 24 runs, seven doubles, 32 RBI and 11 home runs on the season.
