Women's Tennis Faces Northwestern At First Round Of The NCAA Tournament

Chicago, Ill. - With the release of the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship tournament bracket, the UIC women's tennis team will play the top-seeded Northwestern Wildcats at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston at the first round of the tournament on May 9 at 2 p.m. The Flames (16-5, 10-0 Horizon League) will head into the match fresh off their 12th-consecutive Horizon League Title. UIC has not dropped a match since March 16, closing out the regular season on a ten-match winning streak. Northwestern (26-1, 13-0 Big Ten) enters the 2008 tournament with the top seed on the heels of their 10th consecutive Big Ten title. The Wildcats have been ranked number-one since February 26, and are on a 20 match winning streak. This will be the fifth first-round meeting between the Chicagoland-area schools in post-season play in eight years. In 2006, the most recent outing between the two squads, No. 11 Northwestern defeated UIC 4-0.
