55 Redbirds Set to Graduate This Summer
May 9, 2008 NORMAL, Ill. - Throughout the course of this summer, 55 current and former Illinois State student-athletes will receive their degrees. Of that group, 41 will be a part of the ISU's 149th Spring Commencement this weekend, and the other 14 are scheduled to earn their degrees in August. The group also includes 34 student-athletes who competed for ISU during the 2007-08 year. Football players Kye Stewart and Isaiah Wiggins will both receive their degrees this weekend. Stewart was a Walter Camp Football Foundation, College Sporting News and Sports Network All-American and a First-Team All-Gateway selection last season. Wiggins joined Stewart as a Sports Network All-American and First-Team All-Gateway honoree. Just this past week, Wiggins signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL. Men's basketball guard Boo Richardson, who led the Redbirds in assists and steals last season, will receive his diploma in August. Five members of the Illinois State soccer team will graduate on Saturday after leading the Redbirds to the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship, including Yvonne Northover, the 2007 MVC Player of the year and a first-team all-conference selection. Swimmer Tracy Deyell, will receive her degree in August. Deyell was a First-Team All-MVC and MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selection this past season and set two school records and one Valley record at the MVC Championships.
