Wichita, Kan. - Senior Luka Marinkovic and junior Daniel Tobar teamed up to capture the No. 1 doubles match for the second-consecutive day for the Illinois State men's tennis team, but it was not enough as the `Birds fell, 7-0, to Wichita State Sunday, April 13, in Wichita, Kan. With the loss, the Redbirds dropped to 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the Missouri Valley while the Shockers improved to 16-3 and 4-0 in the MVC.

"Luka and Daniel are proving to be one of the top doubles teams in the conference," said head coach Cris James. "They have really good chemistry together on the court. Every time they step on that court I can tell they expect to win."

The doubles win by Marinkovic and Tobar pushed their winning streak as a doubles duo to five-consecutive matches. The tandem defeated Thiago Dos Santos and Albert Ballesta, 8-6. At the No. 2 doubles position junior Nuno Jacinto and sophomore Michael Hobson were bested by Tiago Espirito Santo and Kevin Gardner, 8-2. The Redbirds were forced to forfeit the No. 3 spot due to an injury-shortened roster, giving the Shockers the doubles point.

In singles, Illinois State was unable to claim a victory for the fourth-consecutive match. Marinkovic and freshman Filip Miljevic both nearly forced third sets but were unable to win their second-set tiebreakers. Playing at the No. 1 position, Marinkovic fell to Epirito Santo, 6-3, 7-6, (10-4), while Miljevic lost to his No. 4 spot match to Jonathan Obrist, 6-2, 7-6, (10-4).

"We were better this weekend, but it was not enough," said James. "Hopefully we will have another good week of practice and come back and get better results next weekend."
