Indianapolis, Ind. - The Illinois State women's tennis team swept the IUPUI Jaguars 6-0 on Saturday at the Butler Bubble. The sweep earned the Redbirds their second win of the year, evening out their record at 2-2.

The `Birds did not allow the Jaguars to see a win in any of the matches, closing out each victory after two sets.

In singles play, sophomore Julia Zubkova played her first-ever match at the No. 1 spot, and took the win over Allison Thompson, 6-3, 6-0.

"Julia pulled through his weekend. She has really improved her game," said head coach Chris Hoover regarding Zubkova's impact on the team.

At the No. 2 position, senior Véronique Parke-Bédard topped Andrea Burkhardt, 6-3, 6-1. Senior Carolyne Parent, continued the success, earning her win over Vanessa Carna, 6-3, 6-2. Tanja Hrovatic, the team's only junior, defeated Emily Holsapple, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Katie O'Riley also earned a win after allowing Meghan Dus to only score one point, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Carmen Peters, competed at the No. 6 spot and defeated Dana Gardner, 62, 6-2.

"I thought we played fairly well last night and we are continuing to get better. We did what we need to do and now we're looking forward to playing some really good teams in Las Vegas," said Hoover. "Hopefully were getting more prepared ever match we play as we get closer and closer to the conference games."

Due to time constraints, doubles competition was not held.

The Redbirds will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete against UNLV next Friday, and Oklahoma State Saturday. Both matches will begin at 10 a.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
