Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW women's basketball team finished today's game with North Dakota State on a 12-3 run. Unfortunately, a last second shot to tie fell short and the Mastodons lost to the Lady Bison, 67-65. The game-winner for the Lady Bison came with :58 left as junior center Jerri Penley converted a layup off of an assist from senior guard Amanda Girodat. The Penley bucket gave North Dakota State a, 67-63 lead. IPFW senior guard, and Summit League Player of the week, Johnna Lewis-Carlisle cut the Lady Bison lead to just two with a mid-range jumper. The next trip down the floor, with the shot-clock running down, NDSU senior forward Brenda Slyt launched a three-pointer that was off the mark. IPFW got the ball back with :19 to go and called a timeout. North Dakota State pressured the ball, keeping it out of the hands of Lewis-Carlisle. IPFW senior center Juliane Hohne ended up with the ball around the top of the key, but with :02 left her shot was off the mark and the Lady Bison survived. The loss ruined a career afternoon for IPFW freshman guard Jordan Zuppe. Zuppe scored a career-high 22 points, including a 6-7 mark from behind the arc. Lewis-Carlisle chipped in 14 for the 'Dons and Hohne added 10. Penley led the Lady Bison (10-10, 5-5 Summit) with 20. Senior guard Emily Moran added 16 and Slyt finished with 10. Neither team shot particularly well in the game. North Dakota State ended the afternoon shooting 39.3% while the Mastodons finished at 35.8%. The Lady Bison outrebounded IPFW, 45-35. With the loss, IPFW falls to 9-12 and 6-4 in the Summit League. The Mastodons will get right back at it, hosting South Dakota State on Monday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
