JU rowing continues to make a strong showing as the Men's Varsity 8, Women's Varsity 4 and Men's Junior Varsity 8 each advanced to the Finals while two other boats narrowly missed the cut during the second day of competition at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta, Saturday morning on the Schulykill River in Philadelphia, Pa.

The 70th annual regatta features more than 100 colleges and 3,300 rowers from the United States and Canada.

The Women's Varsity 4 finished first, the Men's Varsity 8 finished second and the Men's Junior Varsity 8 finished third in its respective Semi-Finals to advance to the Finals later this afternoon. The Women's Freshman 4 and Women's Pair each finished third in its Semi-Finals to narrowly miss the cut. The Men's Freshman 4 placed fourth in its Semi-Final to also give the Dolphins a strong finish on the day.

The Men's Junior Varsity 8 consisting of coxswain Anthony Magro, Erich Negaard, Lucas Meers, Chris Carter, Bradley Woodrum, Sebastian Kuhn, Michael Scully, Ryan O'Donnell and Joey Civello finished third with a mark of 5:50.21, behind Colgate (5:46.20) and St. Joseph's (5:49.10), but ahead of Temple (5:52.36), Drexel (5:56.66) and Bucknell (5:59.67) to advance. The Dolphins will compete for the Ernie Bayer Trophy in the Final against Purdue, St. Joseph's, Grand Valley, Colgate and Delaware at 2:35 p.m.

The Women's Varsity 4 with coxswain Jill Sarno, Stephanie Bechtold, Adelina Anderson, Jennifer Barker and Jessica Tuten finished first with a time of 7:02.68, ahead of Long Beach (7:07.46), Penn State (7:16.25), Stetson (7:17.39), Lawrence (7:24.66) and Buffalo (7:26.13) to advance. The Dolphins will compete for the Margaret McNiff Trophy in the Final against Long Beach, Emory, Lafayette, West Virginia and Cincinnati at 3:05 p.m.

The Men's Varsity 8 with coxswain Jessica Marchant, Matthew D'Amico, Richmond Jones, Tyler Humphrey, Greg Boccieri, Adam Heine, Patrick Lura, Dylan Kosten and Stefan Negaard finished second with a mark of 5:39.08, behind Grand Valley (5:37.36), but ahead of Drexel (5:40.66), Santa Clara (5:41.18), Michigan State (5:49.73) and Emory (5:49.73) to advance. The Dolphins will compete for the Richard O'Brien Trophy in the Final against Temple, Colgate, Grand Valley, Purdue and Lehigh at 4:35.

The Women's Freshman 4 made up of coxswain Claire Futo, Candace Barber, Danielle Fournier, Julia Fairchild and Karylina Greer finished third with a mark of 7:24.98, behind Purdue (7:22.50) and Lafayette (7:23.99), but ahead of Clemson (7:39.58), Alabama (7:41.60) and Marquette (7:41.71).

The Women's Pair with Kelly Burke and Kate Gout placed third with a time of 7:55.58, behind New York (7:43.93) and Grand Valley (7:48.91), but ahead of Loyola (8:06.96) and Iona (8:11.62).

The Men's Freshman 4 with coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Matt Repici, Kevin Friedlander, John Gerety and Chris Barse finished fourth with a time of 6:35.97, behind Sonoma (6:30.78), Iona (6:32.45) and Delaware (6:33.30), but ahead of Fairfield (6:43.76) and Rollins College (6:50.72).
