Natasha Harvey earns "Athlete of the Week" honors

April 23, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After another stellar performance, this time at the LSU Alumni Gold, Natasha Harvey of the JU women's outdoor track & field team was named Atlantic Sun "Athlete of the Week" the conference announced on Wednesday.

Harvey recorded two regional qualifiers in Baton Rouge, La., jumping 21-02.00 in the long jump and running a 13.72 in the 100-meter hurdles. Her mark in the long jump is the seventh highest in the nation this year and gives the Dolphins two of the top 10 jumps this season. She is the two-time defending A-Sun champion in both events.

"Natasha continues to raise the bar of excellence for our program and our conference," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "In any other week either Janel's superior 800m run or Shaq's great triple jump might have earned this award, but Natasha's two regional qualifiers and her rank nationally are surely deserving of this honor. She has team goals for conference as well as individual goals for regionals, nationals and Olympic Trials. Her early season performances are indications that she is on track to achieve her goals."

Harvey became the second Dolphin to earn "Athlete of the Week" honors this season after junior teammate Shaquania Lundy picked up the award on April 9. Harvey was also named "Athlete of the Week" once in the outdoor season.

The Dolphins will be back in action on May 10th at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
