Head Coach

Head Coach Omar Johnson enters his second season at the helm of the Jackson State Tigers. During the 2007 season, Johnson led the Tigers to a 33-23 overall record, and a SWAC Eastern Division Championship. During Johnson's tenure at Jackson State University he has helped the team achieve national recognition.

Jackson State University Baseball teams honors include:

• 1st in the nation in stolen base and finished 15th in triples 2003
• 1st in the nation in stolen base and finished 23rd in batting average 2004
• 1st in the nation in runs scored, 2nd in the nation in stolen bases and finished 2nd in batting averages 2005
• 1st in the nation in batting average and 1st in runs scored 2006
8th in the country in batting average and 2nd in the nation in stolen bases

Prior to coaching at Jackson State, Johnson worked at the University of North Alabama for four years. During his tenure at North Alabama, Johnson won two Gulf South Conference Championships, participated in two NCAA Regional Championships, one NCAA World Series and the NBC World Series.

Johnson has worked numerous camps for various institutions and organizations. Johnson served as Head coach for the Cotton State Collegiate Summer League Clinton Corn Dogs (2002, 2003 and 2005). In 2003 and 2005 Johnson's Corndogs won the league championship. He traveled to Germany in the summer of 2004 serving as a coach with Major League Baseball's Envoy program. The Envoy Program sends baseball coaches to teach the fundamentals of the game to players and coaches in countries throughout the world. Johnson has had the privilege of coaching current major leaguer Josh Willingham with the Florida Marlins.

Johnson is a graduate of the University of North Alabama. His athletic achievements include playing in the Florida Junior College all-star game and for the University of North Alabama. Johnson also participated in the NCAA regional 1995, the Gulf South Conference Championship 1995, and the NBC World Series 1995 & 1996.

Johnson is a native of Miami, Florida. He and his wife Kira reside in Jackson, MS.
