ATLANTA, Ga. - The Jackson State baseball team fell 12-4 to the Georgia State Panthers in non-conference play Friday evening at The Field. The Panthers put the first runs on the scoreboard and never looked back, scoring six runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Enrique Quintero scored JSU's first run in the sixth inning. He singled to get on base and was sent home on a Derek Johnson ground out to make the score 9-1. In the seventh inning the Tigers put up three more runs. Jamaal THELWELL started the inning with a double. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a LaDerek Camper single to left field. Brionne JONES reached base on a walk and scored his run on a Marquise ZACHARY walk. Camper scored the final run of the game for JSU. He was sent home on a Johnson single. The Panthers added two more runs at the bottom of the seventh and a last insurance run in the eighth inning for the win. With the win, GSU begins the season with a 1-0 record and JSU is 0-1. Robinson Polancoa picked up his first win of the season. He pitched five innings and gave up one hit. Nicholas STEWART suffered the loss. He went one inning and gave up eight hits and nine runs. Thelwell led the Tigers offensive efforts, going 2-3 with a run scored. Quintero and Camper each got a hit and scored a run and Jones scored a run. Johnson recorded a hit and an RBI. JSU will return to action Saturday, Feb. 23 to face Georgia State for the second game of a three game series. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. (EST). |
