Jackson State lost the final game of a four-game series with Georgia State in Atlanta 18-9. With the loss the Tigers fall to a 0-4 record and Georgia State improves to 4-0. After two innings of play the game was tied 1-1, however the Panthers broke the game open with a nine run third inning. The Tigers cut into the Panther lead, scoring three runs at the top of the fourth. Jamaal Thelwell, Jerome TYES, and Brionne JONES each scored a run for JSU. At the bottom of the fourth the Panthers scored two runs, making the score 12-4. Georgia State added to its lead, scoring three more runs in the fifth and another in the seventh inning. JSU went on its last offensive attack, scoring five runs at the top of the eighth. Tyes singled to get on base, advanced to second on a Marquise Zacharey walk and scored on a Parnell Halliman single to center field. An Enrique Quintero single to right field sent Zachery home. Cortez COLE hit a three-run homer to end the inning. At the bottom of the eighth Georgia State tacked on two more insurance runs. Chris HUGGINS suffered the loss for Jackson State. In 2.1 innings of work he gave up six hits and seven runs. Thelwell led the Tigers offensively, going 3-5 at the plate with a run scored. Cole went 1-5 with a home run and three RBI. Halliman and Quintero each had two hits, a run and two RBI. Tyes and Zachary each scored two runs. Jackson State will return to action Feb. 26 when the Tigers host South Alabama at University field on the JSU campus at 2 p.m. |
