Final Stats

JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball lost its home season opener 18-6 to the University of South Alabama Jaguars in non-conference action. With the loss JSU falls to a 0-5 record and the Jaguars improve to 3-1.

Jackson State got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the first inning. South Alabama put two runs up in the second and added another in the third inning. At the top of the fourth USA tacked on two more run. Jackson State made its first cut into USA's lead as the Tigers scored a run in the fourth, making the score 5-2.

South Alabama scored again in the fifth and broke the game open with an eight run sixth inning. The Tigers scored in the seventh to make the score 14-3.

The Jaguars finished the game with four runs in the ninth inning and JSU recorded three in the final inning of play.

Nicholas STEWART suffered the loss for Jackson State. Brionne JONES led JSU's offensive attack going 2-4 at the plate with a run scored. Jerome TYES recorded one hit for JSU, but made the most of it as he hit the only home run of the day.

Jackson State will return to action Feb. 27 when the Tigers host Grambling State University at the JSU baseball field in a single game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
