JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team secured its first win of the season Wednesday night in a 12-6 decision over Grambling State. Jackson State (1-5) used a four run seventh inning to pull away from a tough Grambling team. The JSU Tigers put the first run on the scoreboard in the first inning. At the top of the seventh the G-Men (1-2) took a 2-1 lead. JSU scored a run to tie the game at 2-2 in the third. JSU scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings to take an 8-4 lead. Grambling added a run in the sixth and eighth innings. Marlon SOMMERVILLE got the win for the Tigers. In 4.1 innings of work he gave up four runs and struck out three batters. Jamaal Thelwell led JSU offensively. He went 2-5 at the plate with a grand slam. Marquise ZACHARY and Jerome TYES also recorded two hits for JSU. Cortez COLE and LaDerek CAMPER each scored two runs for JSU. Jackson State will return to action Friday, Feb. 29th when the Tigers host Texas Pan American in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 6 pm. |
