JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team split a double header with the Texas Pan American Broncos Saturday evening. JSU won the first game 9-8. UTPA got on the scoreboard first, putting up three runs in the second inning. JSU cut into the Broncos lead with a two run second and took the lead for good with a three run third inning. The Broncos scored a run at the top of the fourth, but JSU quickly responded and scored two more in the fourth. The Tigers tacked on another in the fifth and each team scored a run in the seventh to make the score 9-5. The Broncos made a last effort, but came up short as they managed three more runs on the eighth to make the final score 9-8. Jamaal THELWELL and Enrique Quintero led JSU offensively. Both players had four hits and scored two runs. Jerome TYES finished with three hits, a run and a RBI. Derek Johnson had two hits and two runs. Marquise ZACHARY got the win for JSU. The Tigers could not complete the three game sweep of the Broncos, falling 21-2 in the night cap. Texas Pan American broke the game wide open with a 10 run third inning. Cortez Coled led JSU with two hits, a run and a RBI. Cole hit JSU's only home run of the game. Nicholas STEWART suffered the loss for JSU. The Tigers will return to action Mar. 4 when JSU hosts Tougaloo. |
