Jackson State Baseball takes game from Coppin State

Go Tigers!

March 17, 2008

Final Stats

JACKSON, MISS. - A six-run inning supplied the offense in support of a strong effort on the mound by Nicholas STEWART to help Jackson State to a 12-6 win over Coppin State Monday night at the Tiger Baseball Complex.

With the game tied at two, JSU's offense broke the game open in the fourth inning. Back-to-back run-scoring triples by second baseman Enrique Quintero and shortstop LaDerek Camper gave the Tigers the lead for good. But the big blow came from Pernell HALLIMAN, who doubled with the bases loaded and knocked in all three runners. He later came around on a wild pitch to give Jackson State an 8-2 advantage. Halliman had four hits and five RBI on the night.

The big inning supported the work of Stewart, who pitched seven solid innings. He allowed six hits and five runs, walking four and striking out nine. Quintero would get the last six outs to preserve the victory.

Camper had two hits, scored three times and drove in a run while center fielder Cortez COLE had two hits and three RBI for JSU, which hosts Tougaloo College on Wednesday
